Why do airlines instruct you to turn off your phone during takeoff and landing? Does airplane mode make a difference? What happens if you don't turn it off? Here's the answer...
Interesting read... I had these same questions during a trip last year. I even went as far as thinking that the use a phone while on board could cause a plane crash LOL. Thanks Funmi
Funmi, you know, I used to be deathly afraid of flying. And seeing people on their phones during take off just heightened the anxiety. So much so that it was all I could do not to slap the device out of the offender's hand. That was a while ago, though, and I am now a lot more zen about plane travel. The "turn off your phone" advice always seemed dodgy to me, because, as you say, there is no way 100% of devices are ever in flight mode during takeoff/landing. Would be good to understand definitively what the deal is. Fun article to read - I really like your writing style.

Thanks Iris, and thanks for sharing your story. I am so glad you feel much better about flying.
I'd rather put off, to be on the side of caution..
Hmm but this is only enforced if one is in cargo cabin 😄. It’s usually not enforced in First & Business Class .
Hehe. No lies detected!
