Thank you so much for this explanation Funmi. I would like to explain the G7 and G 20 countries, what exactly do they do and how do they get to choose which country is part of the group.

Thank you! This explanation was so clear and made it very easy to understand. One thing I would like clarified is why (in North America) we usually refer to someone from England as being British rather than English. Whereas someone from Wales is Welsh and Scotland is Scottish. Perhaps because of the North American understanding of the difference between England and Great Britain. 🤔

I don't think North Americans are alone in this. It is quite common.

So based on my understanding of your explanation, technically those from Wales and Scotland would also be British OR those from England should really be English, not British?

Everyone of them is British. Scotland people are Scottish and British. England people are English and British. Wales people are Welsh and British. Northern Ireland people are not British, because they don’t fall under Britain but they are of the United Kingdom.

Of course, non English people may relate less to the British term than English people, on a historical or emotional level.

I never knew that Northern Ireland isn't part of Great Britain. I always assumed that GB and UK are one and the same.
